Wanted: Fruitcake-Eating Contestants

November 18, 2009 (Santa Claus, Ind.) – It’s a little-known fact: Santa Claus loves fruitcake. In fact, when Mrs. Claus wants some time out of the kitchen, she places an order with a trusted friend: Grandma.

And so, the newly expanded five-weekend Santa Claus Christmas Celebration will include a fruitcake-eating contest with handmade Grandma’s Fruitcakes from Beatrice Bakery Co. of Beatrice, Nebraska.

“Our contests are based on Christmas traditions and designed to be fun. We got to thinking, what fun would it be to eat a crummy-tasting fruitcake? We managed to find a fruitcake that’s not only palatable—it’s delicious,” says Santa Claus Christmas Celebration spokesperson, Kevin Klosowski. “And the weekend before Christmas, Grandma herself will be on hand to cheer on the competitors.”

Other family-friendly Christmas Celebration contests include: Fastest Christmas Tree Decorating, Fastest Gift Wrapping, and Fastest Gingerbread House Building. Two additional contests will feature the most impressive efforts in Christmas Tree Decorating and Gingerbread House Building. More than $2,000 in prizes will be awarded throughout the Celebration.
